Former Thomas Dale football coach dies

Just last month, officials at Thomas Dale High renamed the school’s field house in honor of former head football coach Vic Williams. After a three-year battle with cancer, Williams died on Nov. 20, according to WTVR-6 news.

Williams was a quarterback at Dale as a teen and later served as the Knights’ coach for 23 years, coming to them after four seasons as head coach at Goochland High School. During his tenure at Dale, Williams won 213 season games and seven Central Region championship titles. He led the team to its first state title in the school’s history last season. Under his tutelage, Dale players earned more than 100 scholarships to play college football. Three of his former Dale players – Ken Oxendine, William Henderson and Rudi Johnson – went on to play in the NFL.
